Volcano

Mount Halia — The slope is quiet now, but the ground still remembers it is a volcano.

Mount Halia is Taniti’s active-but-sleepy volcano, and the usual outing is a hike up to the observation point rather than anything dramatic. The last minor eruption was in 2019, which is recent enough to keep people respectful and far enough back to keep the trail open. Most visitors treat it as a steady half-day climb with a wide view at the top, not a dare.

Mara’s advice is plain: the volcano does not care about your schedule, so check with locals before you go and listen when they say the weather or the footing has changed. Up there, the island feels stripped down to rock, wind, and distance — and that is exactly why the walk matters.
