Arcade

Near the harbor — The arcade is where people retreat when the afternoon heat gets embarrassing.

The arcade near the harbor is small, a little cramped, and exactly the sort of place that can save an hour between lunch and dinner. It has the classics you expect, a few newer machines, and enough flashing noise to make kids forget about the weather outside. You do not need to plan a whole outing around it; you just duck in, burn through a handful of tokens, and leave feeling like you got away with something.

Mara says the air hockey table is the best-maintained thing in the building, which is both a joke and a serious recommendation. The table is smooth, the puck actually moves, and somehow that one detail makes the whole place feel cared for. If the rest of the arcade looks a little sun-faded, that only makes the good parts stand out more.
